I just read this blog post from Heritage Makers. I, like the author of the post, have an important story to tell. My father is aging. He had a stroke in February and he is getting less able to do things. His short-term memory has been affected. He is more emotional. He doesn’t see well anymore. He falls easily.

Lately, I’ve been inspired to tell his story. I’ve been interviewing him and have some real treasures of information about his childhood. I have many more questions to still ask him. Many in my situation would feel helpless at this challenge. I, on the other hand, have a tool. I have Heritage Makers. With Heritage Makers, I can create a book about his life story, and have the resources to do it. There are Story Maps, that give you questions to ask and help you tell the story. Then there are templates. Ahhhhh. I was able to swap in photos and copy and paste in text into the book for my dad. In an hour or so, I had 12 pages done! (In my old paper scrapbooking days, I would spend 2 hours on one page!!)

I can’t emphasize the importance of doing this right now. Is this convenient? NO. I’m pregnant with baby #5 and I have TONS of other irons in the fire. I have to prioritize. There’s no way to do everything, but things seem to fall into place when I put Dad’s story first. I know I’m doing a great thing and I don’t want my children to not know his story.

Sepia Tone color match technique for Studio 2.0

This Heritage Studio 2.0 tip is from a fellow Consultant, Penny Hughes: Thanks Penny!

“I had several heritage photos with all different sepia tints – some
were more brown, some were more green, some were black and white.
When I put them on the page, they didn’t look good together.

You can make them all the same shade by following these steps:

1. Make one photo black and white using the filter

2. Select a fill color. I used 996633 – a shade of brown.

3. Set the fill color to 20, or whatever number you like.

Then hit copy and right click on your next photo to use the paste-
format feature. All of your photos will have the same color tone!”
